Wizkid Set to Ignite Detty December Fest 2026 Opening Night
Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Wizkid will headline the opening night of Detty December Fest 2026, organisers have announced.
The singer is scheduled to perform on December 18, kicking off the 13-day festival, which will run across Lagos until December 30.
The event, produced by entertainment company Livespot360, is returning with an expanded programme that includes the introduction of a second performance stage.
Wizkid will headline the main Festival Stage, while the newly created Pulse Stage will spotlight emerging artists, fresh sounds and rising talents from across Africa.
Livespot360 co-founder and Chief Creative Officer, Darey Art Alade, said the new stage was introduced to reflect the growing international reach of African music and provide opportunities for younger acts.
He said creating a space where established stars and emerging performers can share the same festival ecosystem would help strengthen the continent’s music industry.
More headliners expected
Organisers said additional headliners for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks.
The festival’s expansion follows the launch of the official Detty December Fest in 2025, which drew thousands of attendees and featured an international and African lineup.
Last year’s performers included Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Shenseea, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz, Phyno, Wande Coal, Fave, Young Jonn, Qing Madi, Ice Prince, Jux and Wizkid.
Wizkid’s return will give him another opportunity to perform at the festival after appearing at the 2025 edition.
The singer has remained active following the release of his joint EP, Real, Vol. 1, with Asake in January. He has since featured on projects with artists including Vybz Kartel, Odeal and Jorja Smith.
He has also collaborated with Tyla on “Dynamite” and Ayra Starr on “Gimme Dat.” The latter received a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The singer’s upcoming Detty December appearance follows his 2025 tour in support of his 2024 album, Morayo, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard World Albums chart.
Lagos prepares for another Detty December
The festival’s expansion comes as Lagos continues to attract visitors and members of the Nigerian diaspora for its annual December entertainment season.
The broader Detty December economy has also generated significant consumer spending. According to the MO Africa Company Detty December Report cited by Channels Television, festivities generated an estimated ₦396.5 billion in consumer spending across Lagos.
The Federal Executive Council also established a presidential task force on Detty December ahead of the 2025 festive season, with the initiative aimed at coordinating government agencies and strengthening tourism activities during the period.
With Wizkid confirmed as its first major headliner, Detty December Fest 2026 is set to combine established Afrobeats stars with emerging acts as Lagos prepares for another major festive-season entertainment programme.
