All Progressives Congress Waives Screening for Bola Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Primaries

The All Progressives Congress has approved a waiver exempting Bola Tinubu from undergoing screening ahead of the party’s presidential primaries for the 2027 elections.

The decision was announced by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka following the 188th meeting of the party’s National Working Committee held on Wednesday.

According to Morka, the committee resolved that Tinubu should be considered duly screened in line with the party’s constitution, clearing the way for his participation in the upcoming presidential primary process.

He explained that the decision was taken under powers granted to the National Working Committee by the APC constitution, which allows the party leadership to organise and supervise primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances.

The party said the president had already secured strong backing from major stakeholders within the APC, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, alongside other statutory meetings.

According to the statement, Tinubu had previously undergone screening and clearance before the party’s 2022 presidential primaries, making another appearance before a screening panel unnecessary.

The development comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum within the ruling party.

Meanwhile, James Faleke has reportedly purchased the president’s nomination form for the next presidential race.

Tinubu emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi, who contested under the Labour Party banner.
