Following a wave of internal divisions and litigation, Tony Nwoye has announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing ongoing court cases and instability within the party.
The development was disclosed during plenary on Wednesday in Abuja after the Senate President read Nwoye’s resignation letter and directed that the Senate records be updated accordingly.
In the letter, Nwoye, who represents Anambra North Senatorial District, said his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was driven by internal crises and multiple litigations at the Federal High Court, which he said had affected the party’s cohesion and stability.
He explained that the disputes, along with court judgements, had weakened the structure and functionality of the ADC, making continued association difficult.
The Senate President wished him well in his new political party.
Nwoye was elected to the Senate in 2023 on the Labour Party platform before later defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and has now moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
