IGP Promises Justice Over Delta Extra-Judicial Killing, Dismisses Officer and Team

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure justice in the case of an alleged extra-judicial killing involving a suspect in Delta State.
Speaking at a press briefing held on Tuesday at the Nigerian Police Peace Keeping Hall, Force Headquarters, the IGP said swift disciplinary action had already been taken against those involved.
He disclosed that the officer at the centre of the incident, along with members of his team, had been dismissed from the Force.
According to him, the case file has also been forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for further legal action.
“This matter will not be swept aside. Accountability will be pursued to its full and logical conclusion,” the IGP stated.
Providing details of the incident, he noted that the suspect was reportedly found with a locally fabricated Beretta pistol and four rounds of 9mm live ammunition. He added that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case were still ongoing.
The police chief urged the public not to generalise the incident, stressing that it does not represent the institution as a whole.
“To the Nigerian public, I say this: this incident does not define the Nigeria Police Force. But how we respond to it will. And our response is clear – zero tolerance, full accountability, no exceptions,” he said.
Beyond the case, the IGP also outlined recent operational achievements by the Force. He said that in April 2026 alone, intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of 28 suspected terrorists, 51 murder and culpable homicide suspects, 62 armed robbery suspects, 85 kidnapping suspects, and 54 suspected cultists.
He further revealed that 189 kidnapped victims were rescued during the period.
In terms of recoveries, the Force said it seized 140 assorted firearms, 1,074 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, and 37 stolen vehicles across different operations nationwide.
