Tinubu Nominates Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power, Sends Name to Senate for Confirmation

Following the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office, President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe to fill the vacant position, subject to Senate confirmation.

The nomination has been formally transmitted to the National Assembly for screening and approval in line with constitutional provisions.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

An indigene of Oyo State, Tegbe is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.

He currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating development engagements between Nigeria and China, including frameworks under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Tegbe also has experience in the power sector, having been involved in regulatory and institutional reforms linked to agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

The Presidency said the nomination is aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in the electricity sector, improving grid stability, and attracting sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that, if confirmed, Tegbe will deploy his extensive experience to drive critical reforms and improve power supply outcomes across the country.
