The Labour Party has concluded its national convention in Umuahia with Senator Nenadi Usman elected as National Chairman.
Usman, a former caretaker national chairman, emerged at the 2026 national elective convention held in Abia State, alongside other members of the National Working Committee through a consensus and affirmative voting process.
Others elected include Iheanacho Obioma as National Secretary and Hilda Dokubo as National Women Leader.
In his remarks, Governor Alex Otti, commended the convention committee for conducting a credible exercise and described Usman as a woman of integrity.
He congratulated the new leadership and urged them to focus on reconciliation and unity within the party, stressing the need for inclusion of all members.
“We must ensure nobody is left behind”, Otti said, adding that a reconciliation drive would strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
He also urged the new executives to prepare for upcoming primaries and ensure a peaceful process, noting that “this is a game of numbers”.
In her acceptance speech, Usman thanked delegates for the confidence placed in her and pledged not to betray their trust.
She also appreciated Otti for his support, saying she would justify the confidence reposed in her leadership.
“We shall do everything to make the party grow and make you proud”, she said, calling for unity and cooperation among members, adding that building the party is a collective responsibility.
