The Nigerian sports community is mourning the sudden loss of Michael Eneramo, the former Super Eagles frontman whose death was confirmed following a tragic incident during an early morning exercise session. The retired forward reportedly collapsed while training in Kaduna on Friday. Per reports from SCORENigeria, emergency medical interventions were immediately administered, but despite the exhaustive efforts to stabilize and resuscitate the 40-year-old, he could not be revived.
Eneramo’s international career saw him earn 10 caps for the Nigerian senior national team, during which he contributed three goals to the Super Eagles’ cause. His physical presence and goal-scoring ability made him a respected figure during his tenure with the national side, earning him a place in the hearts of many domestic football enthusiasts.
Before establishing himself on the international stage, Eneramo honed his skills within the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) while representing Lobi Stars. His impressive form in the domestic circuit eventually paved the way for a move to North Africa, where he became a legendary figure at the Tunisian powerhouse, Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
The bulk of his professional journey was spent in the Turkish Süper Lig, where he became a familiar face across several high-profile clubs. His extensive career in Turkey included stints with Beşiktaş and Sivasspor, as well as tenures at Karabükspor, Istanbul Başakşehir, and Manisaspor. The news of his passing marks a somber moment for the clubs he served and the fans who followed his prolific career across the continent and beyond.
