Buruk Blasts “Incompetent” Officiating Following Osimhen’s Injury in Anfield Defeat

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has voiced intense frustration over the officiating during Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League exit, suggesting that Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté was permitted to target Victor Osimhen with impunity. Speaking in a heated post-match interview, Buruk argued that the French center-back’s physical approach went largely unchecked by the officiating crew, directly contributing to the injury that sidelined his star striker. The Istanbul giants saw their European ambitions crumble in a 4–0 second-leg defeat, a result Buruk believes was shaped by the referee’s failure to maintain control over the game’s physicality.

The manager’s most biting remarks were reserved for the match official, Pawel Raczkowski. Raczkowski was a last-minute replacement for Szymon Marciniak, who was reportedly sidelined by an injury during the pre-match warm-up. Buruk, who had expected an elite standard of officiating for such a high-stakes knockout tie, was left staggered by what he perceived as a substandard performance from the Polish stand-in.

Relaying his dissatisfaction to Habersarikirmizi, Buruk lambasted the choice of official:

“Konate committed fouls far too easily on Victor Osimhen’s position. We were expecting the best referee in the world, but instead, the worst referee in the world officiated the match.”

The tactical imbalance caused by the physical battle became a crisis for the “Lions” when Osimhen sustained a suspected arm fracture early in the contest. Despite attempting to soldier on through the first half, the Nigerian international’s influence was clearly waned by the discomfort, leading to his forced withdrawal at the interval. Without their talismanic forward to lead the line, Galatasaray’s structure dissolved in the second half, allowing Liverpool to ruthlessly capitalize and secure their quarter-final berth.

The fallout from the match now centers on the medical bulletin regarding Osimhen, as the club determines if surgery is required for the forearm injury. For Buruk, the night remains a case of what might have been had the officiating provided the “protection” he felt his players deserved. As Galatasaray pivots back to their domestic title defense, the bitter memory of the Anfield “injustice” is likely to linger, particularly with the loss of their most prolific offensive weapon during a critical juncture of the season.
