The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that several transformative infrastructure projects will be inaugurated across the FCT to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.
Wike made the disclosure on Thursday after inspecting ongoing works in key areas of the Federal Capital City (FCC), noting that the initiatives are expected to boost economic activity and improve connectivity.
Among the projects visited is the construction of a dual carriageway linking the Central Business District to Wuse District along the Transit Way N2 Corridor, with completion expected in June. He also reviewed a 3-kilometre dual-carriageway access road to Mabushi Bus Terminal in Mabushi District, Cadastral Zone B06, Phase II.
The minister further inspected the development of Arterial Road N1, connecting Wuye District to Ring Road II, and the reconstruction of the 17-kilometre Old Keffi Road, which links Dei Dei, Saburi, Gwagwa, and Idu Karimo to Life Camp Junction. He confirmed that 14 kilometres of the Old Keffi Road have already been completed, while the Wuye to Ring Road II project, being executed by Arab Contractors, is scheduled for completion by year-end.
Wike praised the pace and quality of the works, emphasizing their importance in opening up densely populated areas and improving access to major routes such as Obafemi Awolowo (N5) at Life Camp Junction. “These projects are transforming the FCT, and I’m pleased with the progress. We are committed to ensuring that work continues swiftly”, he said.
He added that the projects are being financed through the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), rather than the Federation Account, which he noted is insufficient to cover staff salaries, underscoring the territory’s commitment to self-reliance and sustainable development.
