NiDCOM Condemns Killing of Nigerian Student in UK, Calls for Justice

The Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri‑Erewa, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 20‑year‑old Khaleed Oladipo, a Nigerian student who was fatally stabbed in Leicester, United Kingdom.

Oladipo, a second‑year Cybersecurity student at De Montfort University, was attacked near the university campus in Leicester city centre on Tuesday evening and later died in hospital from a stab wound to the chest, according to police. A post‑mortem examination confirmed the cause of death.

In a separate development, British police have charged an 18‑year‑old man, Harper Dennis of West Drayton, London, with Oladipo’s murder and possession of an offensive weapon. Dennis is due to appear before Leicester Crown Court in the coming days.

Dabiri‑Erewa described the incident as “heartbreaking” and a painful loss to both the Oladipo family and the Nigerian community at home and abroad. His family paid tribute to him as a beloved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend, and friend with a passion for football, noting he was likely on his way home to watch a match when he was attacked.

She urged UK authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and that those responsible are held accountable, while reaffirming NiDCOM’s commitment to the welfare, safety, and protection of Nigerians in the diaspora.
