Abdulrahman-Led PDP Fixes National Convention for March 28–29, 2026

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdulrahman Muhammed has officially fixed its National Convention for March 28 and 29, 2026, in Abuja, following the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by Muhammed, Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the committee’s Secretary, in attendance. Deliberations focused on the state of the party, preparations for forthcoming congresses, and recent judicial developments affecting the PDP.

At the meeting, the NEC reaffirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, stressing that it remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the party. The committee reiterated that the caretaker body will continue to function as the National Working Committee (NWC) until a new leadership is elected at the convention.

The NEC also approved the timetable for congresses nationwide, scheduled as follows:

Ward Congresses: February 2026

Local Government Congresses: February 2026

State Congresses: March 2026

To ensure a smooth process, the party directed the National Caretaker Committee to issue comprehensive guidelines and statutory notices for the congresses in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations, and all relevant judicial pronouncements.

Welcoming the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, the NEC reaffirmed its commitment to the independence of the judiciary and urged all party organs and members to adhere strictly to court rulings.

In preparation for the National Convention, the NEC mandated the immediate activation of all convention sub-committees and the commencement of necessary logistical and administrative arrangements. It also approved the extension of the tenure of state and zonal caretaker committees pending the conduct of the congresses and the convention.

The NEC called on party members to remain united, disciplined, and committed to the ideals of the PDP, emphasizing that collective party interests must supersede personal ambitions.

The committee expressed confidence that the resolutions reached would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability, and reposition the PDP for future electoral success.
