Tony Elumelu Appointed to Seplat Energy Board Following M&P Share Sale

Outgoing Director Olivier Cleret De Langavant praised for six years of service

Seplat Energy has announced the appointment of Tony Elumelu as a Non-Executive Director, effective 22 January 2026, following the resignation of Olivier Cleret De Langavant on the same date.

The move comes after Etablissements Maurel et Prom SA (M&P) sold its 20.07% stake in Seplat to Heirs Holdings Limited and Heirs Energies Limited.

In a statement signed by Edith Onwuchekwa, Seplat’s Director Legal/Company Secretary, the company lauded Langavant for his exceptional service since joining the Board in January 2020, highlighting his strategic counsel and invaluable contributions to the company’s growth.

Seplat described Tony Elumelu as a renowned African investor and philanthropist, widely recognised for championing Africa’s transformation agenda. He is the Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, with investments across energy, power, banking, insurance, technology, real estate, hospitality, and healthcare.

Elumelu also chairs the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group, Heirs Energies, and Transcorp Group, whose subsidiaries include Transcorp Power and Transcorp Hotels Plc.

In 2010, he founded the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), Africa’s leading philanthropy dedicated to empowering entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries. His global influence has been recognised through TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People (2020) and the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (2022). He also serves on international boards, including UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council and the IMF Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship and Growth.

Seplat’s Board expressed confidence that Elumelu’s experience and leadership would advance the company’s strategic objectives and reinforce its commitment to sustainable growth.

Chairman Udoma Udo Udoma said:
“On behalf of the Board and Management, we express our profound appreciation to Langavant for his outstanding contributions over the past six years. His expertise has been instrumental in driving Seplat’s strategic initiatives. We warmly welcome Elumelu to the Board and look forward to leveraging his wealth of experience to create value for all stakeholders.”
