Diddy Slams Netflix Docuseries ‘Sean Combs: The Reckoning’ as ‘Shameful Hit Piece’

Sean “Diddy” Combs has publicly condemned Netflix’s new four-part docuseries, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, branding it a “shameful hit piece” and alleging that the platform used unauthorized footage. He also criticised executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, accusing him of a personal vendetta.

The documentary, which premiered globally on December 2, 2025, chronicles Combs’s rise in music, his influential career, and his ongoing legal challenges, including a federal indictment.

In a statement shared with Variety, Combs’s spokesperson said Netflix relied on “stolen footage that was never authorised for release,” asserting that Combs has been collecting materials since he was 19 to tell his story in his own way. “It is fundamentally unfair, and illegal, for Netflix to misappropriate that work,” the spokesperson added.

Combs further accused the platform of sensationalising his life for profit, stating that private conversations, including calls with his attorneys, were taken out of context. “No rights in that material were ever transferred to Netflix or any third party,” he said.

Netflix responded via Tudum, affirming that the series includes rare footage filmed legally by director Alexandria Stapleton just six days before Combs’s arrest. The platform claimed they attempted to contact Combs’s team but received no response. Stapleton emphasised that the footage was obtained with proper rights and the filmmaker’s identity remained confidential.

Diddy also criticised Netflix’s choice of 50 Cent as executive producer, calling it “a personal breach of trust” and noting the rapper’s history of publicly slandering him. “For Netflix to give his life story to someone who has attacked him for decades feels like an unnecessary and deeply personal affront,” Combs said.

50 Cent defended the series, highlighting the unprecedented access it provides. “He was documenting himself on his way to jail,” Jackson said, noting the intimate portrayal of Combs navigating his legal struggles.

The docuseries captures Combs in September 2024 in New York City, showing him under intense legal pressure. In one scene, he speaks to his attorney about fighting for his life and justice, just six days before being indicted on racketeering, sex trafficking, and related charges.

Sean Combs: The Reckoning offers viewers a detailed look into the music mogul’s career, the pressures of fame, and his ongoing legal battles, while sparking controversy over the ethics of documenting celebrity lives.
