ANTP Debunks Death Rumour of Veteran Yoruba Actor Lere Paimo

The Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has refuted viral claims suggesting that celebrated Yoruba actor and cultural icon, Olalere OsunPaimo, popularly known as Lere Paimo has died.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the association’s National Public Relations Officer, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, confirmed that the 89-year-old veteran is alive and in good health, adding that the clarification followed direct communication with the actor’s wife.

Oluwafemi described the rumour as “unfounded” and expressed concern over the rising trend of unverified reports being circulated online.

“Reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) are false. We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health,” the statement read.

The association condemned those behind the misleading posts, urging the public to rely on credible sources and refrain from amplifying misinformation.

Lere Paimo, fondly called Baba Eda Onile Ola, is one of the most respected figures in Nigeria’s theatre and film landscape, with a career spanning decades in stage plays, television productions, and Yoruba cinema.

The ANTP thanked fans and the public for their concern, reassuring them that the revered thespian is doing well.

“We urge everyone to verify information before sharing to avoid spreading misinformation,” the association added.
