Former Chief of Defence Staff Musa Holds Security Talks with Tinubu Amid Surge in Attacks

The immediate‑past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa (rtd), met with Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday night. Gen. Musa arrived shortly after 7 p.m. and was led into the President’s office area.

As of press time, the purpose of the meeting had not been disclosed. It marks the first public encounter between the former CDS and President Tinubu since Musa left office on October 24, 2025.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened insecurity across the country, especially in the North and adjoining regions. In recent weeks, there have been mass abductions of students in Kebbi State and Niger State, attacks on worshippers in Eruku in Kwara State, and continued violence linked to banditry and insurgency.

In response to the recent spate of violence and kidnappings, President Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency, ordered mass recruitment of police and military personnel, and directed increased aerial surveillance over forests in critical states including Kebbi, Niger and Kwara.

The visit amid heightened security concerns in the North, including the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi, the attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara, and the kidnapping of Catholic schoolchildren in Minna, as security agencies intensify counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across the North-West and North-Central.
