The Nigerian government has unveiled plans to establish 4,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy manufacturing capacity across participating states as part of its drive to strengthen the country’s power sector.
The announcement came in a communique following the Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF), held in Abuja on October 14–15, 2025, and chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to the statement, the initiative is part of the Nigeria First policy in the power sector and is being pioneered by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The program aims to achieve 50 percent local content within three years, promoting domestic manufacturing and job creation.
“This partnership aims to deliver 4,000 MW of renewable energy manufacturing capacity to catalyse value-chain development across participating states,” the communique said.
The initiative is expected to spur investment, enhance local capabilities, and accelerate Nigeria’s transition to clean energy, positioning the country as a hub for renewable energy manufacturing in Africa.
