Fmr. Chelsea Midfielder Craig Burley Rips Into Man United’s Ugarte

Former Chelsea player Craig Burley has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte, branding him a “wet blanket” who contributes “absolutely nothing” to the team.
Ugarte joined United from PSG in the summer of 2024 for around £50m under Erik ten Hag’s tenure, but has struggled to impress despite making 45 appearances last season.
Speaking on ESPN, Burley was blunt in his assessment:
“Manuel Ugarte is just absolutely nothing. He’s just like a wet blanket. Put him in with the kids and even the kids would be going, ‘who the hell is this guy? Seriously.’”
The criticism adds to earlier remarks by Gary Neville, who also claimed the Uruguayan “is not a Manchester United player.”
So far this season, Ugarte has featured only as a second-half substitute in United’s opening two Premier League matches and was left unused against Burnley.
