INEC Urges Nigerians to Correct Details, Replace Lost PVCs Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to correct their personal details, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and collect unclaimed cards in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The call was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Bauchi State, Umar Ibrahim, during a press briefing on Friday.

He explained that the exercise covers a wide range of services, including:

Fresh registration for new voters,

Correction of personal details such as names, dates of birth, gender, or addresses,

Replacement of lost, defaced, or damaged PVCs,

Transfer of voter registration within or across states, and

Collection of uncollected PVCs from the 2022 CVR.

Ibrahim disclosed that while online pre-registration began on Monday, August 18, 2025, physical registration will kick off on Monday, August 25, 2025, across designated centres in Bauchi State.

“Both the online and physical processes will run simultaneously until August 30, 2026. To be eligible, applicants must be Nigerian citizens, at least 18 years old, not previously registered, and physically present for biometric capture,” the REC explained.

He noted that online registration can be completed at cvr.inecnigeria.org, available 24/7, while physical registration will take place between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on weekdays (excluding public holidays) at the INEC State Office in Bauchi and the 20 Local Government INEC Offices across the state.

To ensure transparency, Ibrahim said the Preliminary Register of Voters will be displayed quarterly for public scrutiny, enabling citizens to raise claims, objections, or corrections before the final register is published.

The REC also issued a stern warning against electoral offences:

“The Commission will not tolerate multiple or underage registration, collection of PVCs by proxy, or obstruction of officials. These offences attract stiff penalties under the Electoral Act 2022.”

Ibrahim therefore urged all eligible voters to seize the opportunity:

“I call on Nigerians in Bauchi State to register, update their records where necessary, and collect their PVCs. The Commission remains fully committed to ensuring a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive voter registration process.”
