The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to members publicly backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, declaring such actions a breach of the party’s constitution and a form of “anti-party activity.”
In a statement on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said the party is deeply concerned about recent public declarations of support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate by some prominent PDP figures.
“Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances — including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the APC in the 2027 Presidential election — in violation of the provision of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) — constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party,” Ologunagba stated.
The warning follows open endorsements of Tinubu’s second-term bid by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory; Ayodele Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State; and members of the PDP Osun State caucus, among others.
Citing Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution, Ologunagba stressed that no member is allowed to undermine the party’s interests or activities.
“Such anti-party activities have continued to impact negatively on the PDP, leading to division, disaffection and heavy hemorrhaging of members, with the capacity to diminish our electoral fortune if not immediately checked,” he said.
The NWC, invoking Section 59(1) of the party’s constitution, formally cautioned those involved, warning that any further violations would attract severe disciplinary measures.
“We hereby issue a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and caution those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,” Ologunagba declared.
He urged members to remain loyal, united, and focused as the party prepares for its National Convention in November 2025, adding that every effort must be geared toward strengthening the PDP’s electoral fortunes.
