Crisis Hits APC in FCT Over Alleged Plan to Drop Chairmanship Candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is facing internal crisis following an alleged plot to replace Hon. Joshua Ishaku as the party’s chairmanship candidate for the 2026 Area Council elections.

Ishaku emerged as the party’s candidate after securing all 33 delegate votes in the APC primary held in June. However, reports suggest that the party’s Election Appeal Committee has recommended that he be dropped, sparking widespread discontent among party members and stakeholders in the area.

In response, the APC Stakeholders’ Forum in Bwari has strongly rejected the move, warning that it could lead to internal implosion and electoral setbacks. The forum raised concerns about growing tension within the party and called for immediate intervention.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the Forum’s Chairman and former Bwari Council Chairman, Hon. Musa Dikko, alongside the Forum’s Secretary and current APC Secretary of Bwari Area Council, Hon. Shuaibu Musa, appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the party’s national leadership to intervene and uphold justice.

“We urge the party to allow the candidate who legitimately won the primary to retain the ticket. Doing so will restore calm and position APC for victory in the coming election,” Dikko stated.

Providing background to the dispute, the forum explained that while Hon. Joshua Ishaku won the primary by unanimous delegate support, another aspirant, Hon. Haruna Audi Shekwolo, who received zero votes, challenged the outcome.

Shekwolo filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to overturn the results, but the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence. He later petitioned the APC Election Appeal Committee, which reopened the matter.

The Stakeholders’ Forum, however, accused the committee of handling the appeal in a manner that lacked fairness, transparency, and due process.

Describing the committee’s actions as “kangaroo in nature,” the forum condemned what it saw as a deviation from the core values of political justice and called for the immediate reversal of any recommendation to replace Ishaku.
