WAEC Pulls Down 2025 Exam Results After Detecting Technical Errors

Council urges candidates to recheck results in 24 hours as it scrambles to fix glitches affecting core subjects

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily withdrawn the 2025 WASSCE results following the discovery of technical issues that affected key subjects.

In a statement released on Thursday by its Public Affairs Department, the examination body said internal checks revealed glitches in the scores of Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics,  all core subjects for secondary school candidates.

The move comes after public concerns over anomalies in the recently published results. WAEC confirmed that it had launched an urgent review, leading to the suspension of result access on its online portal.

“WAEC sincerely regrets the inconvenience this situation has caused and assures the public that necessary corrections are underway,” the statement read.

The Council attributed the problem to a new anti-malpractice innovation known as paper serialization, which had been implemented in the four affected subjects. While the system aims to curb cheating and align with international assessment standards, its deployment triggered unforeseen errors post-publication.

WAEC emphasized its commitment to fairness and transparency, promising that access to corrected results will be restored within 24 hours.

Candidates who have already checked their scores are advised to revisit the result portal after the correction window.

“We deeply apologize to all affected candidates and thank them for their patience as we work to resolve this issue promptly,” the statement added.

Despite the hiccup, WAEC reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s examination system and pledged to improve its digital processes going forward.
