The Anambra State Government has completed the construction of a key beltway project with the addition of a fourth dual carriageway, successfully linking four major cities and improving the flow of traffic across the state.
This milestone was announced on Tuesday in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor. He disclosed that the state has also approved a fresh sum of ₦31.6 billion for new infrastructure projects, including the dualisation of the Ekwulobia–Nnobi Road, among others.
These decisions were reached during the 14th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), which held on Monday at the Government House, popularly known as the “Light House” in Awka.
According to Mefor, the newly approved road contracts form part of the broader strategy to deepen infrastructural development and ease mobility across Anambra. The highlight is the Ekwulobia–Nnobi Dualisation Road Project, which now completes the long-envisioned Anambra beltway.
“The Council also awarded the fourth dual carriageway Ekwulobia to Nnobi to effectively connect the four key cities of Anambra, thereby finalizing the beltway and ensuring smooth vehicular movement statewide,” the statement read.
In the same meeting, the Council reviewed and adopted the 2024 Business Enabling Reforms Action Plan, reinforcing the state’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business.
Mefor explained that Anambra, as part of the national State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) programme, implements yearly reforms focused on improving processes related to land administration, tax systems, infrastructure, judicial access, and investment promotion.
The government noted that its reform efforts are being monitored to ensure they’re sustainable and impactful. Notable progress has already been recorded in land digitization, ease of business registration, and the establishment of small claims courts to expedite commercial dispute resolution.
The Council also addressed challenges with the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. Supervisors across ministries were directed to permit public servants with proof to participate in the registration process.
Among the newly awarded and approved projects are:
- Dualisation of Ekwulobia–Nnobi Road (32.6 km) – awarded to Geld Construction Ltd at a contract sum of ₦28.85 billion
- Supply & Installation of Mechanical Equipment at the College of Nursing Sciences – awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd for ₦110.65 million
- Construction of a Viewpoint Barricade at the Light House, Awka – awarded to Muterbonch & Company Nig Ltd at ₦488.43 million
- Geophysical Mapping for 2,018 hectares of land – awarded to Calyzid Ventures for ₦95.82 million
- Completion of Road Segments in Okpoko Area – awarded to IDC Construction Ltd for ₦2.03 billion
- Procurement and Installation of Digital Multi-band Jammers – awarded to Intertrek Solutions and Services at ₦96.86 million
Additionally, the Council joined the rest of the country in mourning the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died recently in a London hospital. A minute of silence was observed in his honour during the meeting.
