Angelique Kidjo Becomes First African Musician to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

Beninese-French music icon and actress Angelique Kidjo has been named among the 2025 recipients of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making her the first African musician to receive the honor.
The announcement, made on July 2, 2025, marks a major milestone in Kidjo’s decades-long global career and celebrates her enduring influence on music, culture, and social advocacy.
Kidjo, a five-time Grammy Award winner, was listed alongside 35 other honorees including pop star Miley Cyrus, hip-hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, gospel legends The Clark Sisters, and country music artist Lyle Lovett.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame, located on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to entertainment. Kidjo’s inclusion reflects her impact not just as a performer, but as a global cultural ambassador and voice for African heritage.
