NNPC Posts N1.05 Trillion Profit in May, Driven by Higher Margins and Operational Gains

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has reported a profit after tax (PAT) of ₦1.05 trillion for May 2025, marking a significant 29.03% increase from the ₦748 billion recorded in April.

The state-owned oil company disclosed the figures in its latest publication, NNPC Limited Monthly Report Summary May 2025. It said total revenue for the month stood at ₦6 trillion, representing a modest 1.87% increase from ₦5.89 trillion in April.

In the same period, NNPC said it remitted ₦5.58 trillion in statutory payments. However, the company emphasized that all financial results remain provisional and unaudited.

Crude oil and condensate production for May averaged 1.62 million barrels per day (bpd), while daily natural gas output was put at 7.35 million standard cubic feet. The company clarified that the figures only reflect its own operations and do not include data from independent producers, which are typically reported by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

On product distribution, NNPC Retail Limited recorded 62 percent petrol availability across its retail stations during the month. The report also highlighted a 98 percent reliability rate in the company’s upstream pipeline network a strong indication of operational stability.

Progress on Infrastructure Projects

NNPC provided an update on its ongoing gas infrastructure projects, stating that technical interventions continued on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline, particularly to resolve engineering challenges associated with crossing the River Niger.

Similarly, it said detailed technical assessments are being conducted on the OB3 pipeline’s River Niger segment to determine the most effective execution path forward.

The company also reported the completion of turnaround maintenance activities at key assets, including the Trans Escravos Pipeline (TEP), OML 40’s Opuama flow station, and OML 17’s Obigbo and Agbada flow stations.

Refinery Rehabilitation Still Under Review

In the downstream segment, NNPC said evaluations are still ongoing at the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries as part of its broader efforts to revamp domestic refining capacity.

“Ongoing collaboration with venture partners is focused on accelerating sustainable production enhancement,” the company noted.
