NYSC DG Urges Corps Members to Embrace Postings, Avoid Misconduct

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu encourages patriotism and cultural tolerance during Lagos orientation camp visit

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on corps members to accept their deployment in good faith and remain committed to selfless service in their places of primary assignment.

Speaking during an official visit to the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, the DG addressed the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 corps members, urging them to respect the cultures of their host communities and avoid acts that could tarnish the image of the scheme.

“You have answered the clarion call, and we expect you to be patriotic, diligent, and disciplined. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and your contributions matter,” General Nafiu stated.

He cautioned corps members against traveling without authorisation and especially warned against night travel, stressing that violations of NYSC bylaws or the nation’s laws would be met with appropriate sanctions.

In her report to the DG, NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Christianah Salmwang, revealed that 3,212 corps members—1,250 males and 1,960 females—were registered at the Lagos orientation camp. Additionally, 4,675 corps members were dislodged to other states due to capacity limits: Kwara (1,116), Ekiti (1,225), Ondo (691), and Osun (1,643), bringing the total number of corps members deployed to Lagos State to 7,887.

Salmwang noted that the corps members had quickly adapted to camp life, actively participating in committees and performing assigned tasks effectively.
