Sanwo-Olu Declares Full Support for APC Candidates in Lagos Council Elections

Governor pledges full support as APC flags off campaign for July 12 local government elections.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging unwavering support for all party candidates contesting in the upcoming July 12 local government elections.

The governor made this known on Tuesday during the official flag-off of the APC campaign at the party’s state secretariat in Ogba, where he was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin.

During the event, party flags were presented to 57 chairmanship and 376 councillorship candidates running under the APC platform across the state’s local councils.

“The love I have for this party is unquantifiable. I am with all the candidates. This is not just an official flag-off — it marks the beginning of hard work and dedication,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

He emphasized that the campaign should reflect the party’s progressive ideals, urging party loyalists to mobilize support at the grassroots level.

“We are not only here to win an election, we are here to change the lives of our people and continue the legacy of our President,” he added.

GAC Chairman, Olusi, Calls for Service-Driven Leadership

Also speaking at the campaign launch, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC), charged all APC candidates to prioritize public service if elected.

He lamented that the political space is increasingly dominated by individuals seeking personal gain, rather than those committed to service.

“The love of our community and society should be paramount. Those who didn’t get the ticket this time should remain patient. There is still time and opportunity in the future,” Olusi said.

He encouraged youth members to form campaign teams and engage in **door-to-door mobilisation to secure widespread support for the party ahead of the polls.

Obasa Urges Unity, Eyes 2027

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, reinforced the need for party unity, warning members against internal conflict.

“The party is supreme. We must obey the party and support all our candidates. We must not fight ourselves,” he said.

Obasa described the council elections as a “testing ground” for the APC’s ambitions ahead of the 2027 presidential election, including the party’s plan to return President Bola Tinubu to power with a decisive win.

A Show of Force for the APC

Tuesday’s campaign flag-off marks a significant step in the APC’s mobilisation efforts for the local polls — elections often seen as indicators of party strength at the grassroots level in Lagos.

With 433 candidates in the race, party leaders say they are confident of sweeping the elections, banking on the APC’s long-standing dominance in the state and Sanwo-Olu’s renewed commitment to delivering victory.
