NPFL Condemns Unauthorized Use of Its Name in Golden Boot Award

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has expressed strong disapproval over the unauthorized use of its brand name by certain corporate entities and their associates. This criticism follows the announcement of the Eunisell Golden Boot Award, set to be presented to the league’s top scorer for the 2024/25 season, Anas Yusuf.

NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, acknowledged that while initiatives rewarding top performers—such as the N3.6 million prize—are commendable, there are official procedures that must be followed to organize such awards in partnership with the league.

The award ceremony is slated for Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in GRA Ikeja, Lagos.

“It is improper for individuals or organizations to use the NPFL name to announce an award without approval from the rightful owners,” Elegbeleye told NPFL media. He emphasized that the league will pursue all legal avenues to protect its branding and will involve the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to halt unauthorized actions.

“This impunity must end,” he stated. “Now is the time to correct these wrongs and enforce proper protocol.”
