Cristian Chivu Named Inter Head Coach After Inzaghi’s Exit

Inter Milan have appointed Cristian Chivu as their new head coach, following the departure of Simone Inzaghi earlier this week.
Chivu, 44, a former Inter defender and Champions League winner in 2010, has signed a two-year contract until 2027. He takes over after a brief but impressive stint at Parma, where he took charge in February with the club languishing in 18th place. In his first senior managerial role, he steered them to safety, finishing 16th in Serie A and avoiding relegation by five points.
A decorated former player, Chivu made 168 appearances for Inter and was part of the legendary treble-winning side under Jose Mourinho. After retiring, he returned to Inter in a coaching capacity and led their Primavera (U-20) team from 2021.
Although Inter had explored other managerial options — including talks with Cesc Fabregas, currently at Como — they ultimately turned to Chivu, a familiar and trusted figure at the San Siro.
Simone Inzaghi, 49, left Inter after a season without trophies, despite guiding the team to the Serie A title race climax and a Champions League final, where they were beaten 5–0 by Paris Saint-Germain. He has since joined Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Inzaghi’s four-year spell at Inter saw domestic success, including the 2023–24 Serie A title, two Champions League final appearances, and victories in domestic cup competitions.
