Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens, and Nasarawa Amazons Shine in Super Six Drama

Match-day three of the 2025 Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership Super Six provided plenty of action in Ikenne on Tuesday, with defending champions Edo Queens securing their first win, Nasarawa Amazons narrowly defeating Rivers Angels, and Bayelsa Queens handing Remo Stars Ladies their first loss of the playoffs.
In the early kick-off, Edo Queens triumphed 2-0 over Naija Ratels. The Benin Arsenals, having gone winless in their previous two matches, made a strong start. Emem Essien was the star, scoring twice in quick succession in the 20th and 22nd minutes to put the champions firmly in control. Despite Naija Ratels’ efforts to fight back, they were unable to breach the Edo defense. The win was crucial for the defending champions, while Ratels remain at the bottom of the table with no points.
In the second match, Nasarawa Amazons edged out Rivers Angels 2-1. Jenat Akekeromowei was once again the standout performer, netting twice in the 24th and 30th minutes to extend her perfect record of scoring in every match of the playoffs.
Rivers Angels responded in the 79th minute with a brilliant free kick from Catherine Kenneth, but it wasn’t enough to prevent their second defeat. Nasarawa, now unbeaten, remain at the top of the table with seven points.
The final match saw Bayelsa Queens hand Remo Stars Ladies their first defeat of the Super Six. The Prosperity Ladies started strong, with Chinwe Akabike scoring in the 12th minute and Sefiat Idris doubling the lead just over 10 minutes later.
Despite a perfect start to the playoffs, Remo Stars couldn’t recover from the early setbacks and struggled to create clear chances. Bayelsa’s win moved them to the top of the standings, tied on seven points with Nasarawa, but ahead on goal difference.
After match-day three, Remo Stars sit in third place with six points, while Edo Queens rise to fourth with four points. Rivers Angels remain in fifth with one point, and Naija Ratels sit at the bottom after losing all three of their matches.
Wednesday will be a rest day, with match-day four scheduled to resume on Thursday at the Remo Stars Stadium. The upcoming fixtures include Edo Queens versus Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels against Naija Ratels, and a potential title-deciding clash between Remo Stars Ladies and Nasarawa Amazons.
