Taiwo Awoniyi Undergoes Surgery After Injury in Draw Against Leicester

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi underwent surgery on Monday to treat an abdominal injury sustained during the team’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Leicester City, according to British media reports.

The Nigerian international suffered the injury after crashing into the goalpost during the match. Although he received treatment on the pitch, Awoniyi returned to play and visibly limped through the final 10 minutes.

The club has yet to issue an official statement regarding his condition, with no comment provided outside regular business hours in the UK.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the decision not to substitute Awoniyi after the incident. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo attributed the situation to a communication lapse between the coaching and medical staff.

Forest currently sit just one point behind fifth-placed Chelsea and are scheduled to face West Ham United on Sunday.
