A cholera outbreak has been reported in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of four people.
Several other affected individuals have been taken to primary healthcare centres and cottage hospitals within the area for medical treatment.
The Executive Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Amalau Amalau, confirmed the outbreak on Monday while speaking to journalists in Jos. He identified the affected communities as Hurti in Bokkos West, Bokkos Central, and Mangol.
Amalau explained that the Primary Health Care Department is working closely with the cottage hospital to contain the outbreak and provide treatment to those affected.
“Indeed, we have recorded an outbreak of cholera in some communities in Bokkos,” he said. “The Primary Health Care Department and the cottage hospital are collaborating to tackle the situation. So far, we have lost about four persons, while some others are currently receiving treatment, and a few have already been discharged.”
The chairman urged residents to remain vigilant and follow global health guidelines, including practicing proper hygiene and maintaining clean environments, to help curb the spread of the disease.
