Minister Attributes UTME Mass Failure to Effective Anti-Malpractice Measures

The Minister of Education has addressed the recent mass failure in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), attributing it to the successful implementation of anti-examination malpractice measures. He emphasized that the stringent protocols have led to more accurate assessments of students’ academic capabilities.

According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the failure rate has significantly increased compared to previous years. The Minister stated that this outcome reflects the elimination of cheating and other forms of malpractice, ensuring that only genuinely prepared candidates succeed.

He further explained that the introduction of biometric verification, CCTV monitoring, and other technological advancements has curtailed fraudulent activities during examinations. These measures aim to uphold the integrity of the educational system and restore public confidence.

While acknowledging the concerns of students and parents, the Minister urged stakeholders to view the results as a call to action for improved teaching and learning processes. He advocated for enhanced teacher training and curriculum development to better prepare students for future assessments.

Educational experts have supported the Minister’s stance, noting that the crackdown on malpractice is a necessary step toward academic excellence. They argue that maintaining high standards is essential for producing competent graduates who can compete globally.

As the education sector continues to evolve, the government remains committed to implementing policies that promote fairness, transparency, and quality in academic evaluations.
