In a significant boost to technical education in Nasarawa State, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted accreditation and approval for 33 academic programmes at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia.
The approval, detailed in a letter dated April 8, 2025, and signed by Dr. Fatima Umar on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NBTE, allows the institution to commence the newly accredited programmes from the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to a statement by the Polytechnic’s Director of Information and Protocol, Mukhtar Wakeel, the accreditation marks a major milestone in the institution’s efforts to become one of Nigeria’s top five polytechnics. The newly approved courses span a wide range of disciplines including engineering, science, technology, management, and communication.
“This milestone affirms our commitment to quality technical education and positions the Polytechnic for greater national and global relevance,” Wakeel noted.
Among the newly accredited courses are ND and HND programmes in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Renewable Energy, Mechatronics, Business Administration, and Library & Information Science.
The move follows an NBTE accreditation team visit in February for comprehensive programme assessments. Unlike general media reports, which often focus solely on the number of approved programmes, this development underscores the institution’s broader vision for technical excellence and workforce readiness in Nigeria.
