The nominees for the 2025 BET Awards were officially announced on Thursday, May 8, with several Nigerian Afrobeats stars making a strong showing on the list.
Leading the Nigerian contingent is Ayra Starr, who secured three nominations: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act. Tems followed with two nods in the BET Her category for her empowering singles Burning and Hold On.
Other Nigerian nominees include Burna Boy (Best Male Hip-Hop Artist), Rema (Best International Act), and Shallipopi (Best New International Act), highlighting Afrobeats’ growing global influence.
On the international front, American rapper Kendrick Lamar topped the list with 10 nominations. He is trailed by Drake, Future, Doechii, and GloRilla, each earning six nominations.
The 2025 BET Awards ceremony will air live on June 9 from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, exclusively on BET.
