15% of global population struggling with infertility – Uhioh

The Chief Medical Director of Our Mother Theresa Specialist Hospital and Fertility Centre, Dr. Charles Uhioh, has stated that infertility affects approximately 15% of the global population, making it a significant public health issue.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba, Delta State, during the hospital’s 20th anniversary celebration, Dr. Uhioh emphasized the shared responsibility of infertility among couples.

“Men are responsible for about 30% of infertility cases, while women account for another 30%. In an additional 30% of cases, both partners have fertility challenges. The remaining 10% is classified as ‘unexplained infertility’,” he explained.

Despite the high prevalence, Dr. Uhioh expressed optimism, noting that advances in medical science and access to modern fertility treatments are steadily reducing the burden of infertility across the world.

He highlighted the achievements of Our Mother Theresa Specialist Hospital and Fertility Centre, which operates branches in Lekki (Lagos State), Asaba (Delta State), and Uromi (Edo State).

“Our services have brought joy to over 6,000 families globally through IVF and other fertility treatments,” he said.

“Our guiding belief is that ‘Every Woman is a Mother’, and we remain committed to women’s health, fertility care, and holistic well-being.”

The hospital’s 20-year milestone was celebrated with staff, patients, and families who have benefited from its services. Dr. Uhioh expressed deep gratitude for the Centre’s journey and the lives transformed over the past two decades.
