TCN Seeks Urgent Action on Enugu Substation as Senator Ngwu Visits Facility

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has called for urgent resolution of Right-of-Way (RoW) challenges delaying the commissioning of the 9th Mile 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Enugu State.
According to Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, the appeal was made during a visit by the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Engr. Dr. Osita Ngwu, to the facility on Saturday.
The senator was received by the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Sub-Region, Engr. Madu, and other management staff, who briefed him on the status of the project.
According to TCN, the substation was completed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) in 2022 but has remained idle because the approximately 22-kilometre New Haven–9th Mile 132kV double-circuit transmission line is yet to be completed.
Engr. Madu identified Right-of-Way constraints as the major obstacle delaying completion of the transmission line, stressing that the line is essential for the energisation and commissioning of the substation.
He said that once operational, the facility would significantly improve bulk power supply to the 9th Mile industrial hub and neighbouring communities.
The TCN official also underscored the need for enhanced security to protect the substation from vandalism while awaiting commissioning.
Responding, Senator Ngwu acknowledged the urgency of the issues raised and pledged to support efforts aimed at resolving the Right-of-Way constraints and strengthening security around the facility.
He said addressing the challenges would help facilitate the completion of the project and ensure the transmission infrastructure is put into service.
The visit ended with a tour of the control room, switchyard and other critical installations at the substation.
