PDP Shifts Elective Convention to November, Moves Venue to Ibadan

Change comes amid claims of returnees from failed opposition coalition, says party is ready to reclaim power in 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a shift in the date and venue of its much-anticipated national elective convention, moving the event from August to November 2025. The convention will now be held in Ibadan, Oyo State, instead of Kano, the initially designated host city.

This update was confirmed on Thursday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, during a press briefing following the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The rescheduling comes at a critical time for the opposition party, as internal realignments continue to unfold ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing the media, Acting PDP National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum stated that several former members who briefly aligned with an opposition coalition are returning to the PDP fold. According to Damagum, these individuals admitted to merely attending coalition meetings and have now retracted their association with the alliance.

He described the opposition coalition as a “failed political experiment” and emphasized that the PDP remains Nigeria’s only truly national party with the structure, capacity, and legacy to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.

Damagum reaffirmed the party’s readiness to retake power at the federal level, positioning the upcoming convention as a major turning point in the PDP’s bid to reclaim national leadership.
