The Board announced that eligible candidates can register at any Institutional Professional Registration Centre (IPRC) located within Colleges of Education or at any JAMB Professional Registration Centre (PRC) nationwide, provided they possess the required O’Level credits.

The development follows the Federal Government’s decision to waive the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) requirement for admission into the two categories of programmes.

According to JAMB’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocol/Public Communications Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board has introduced an alternative admission process aimed at maintaining quality while expanding access to teacher education and agricultural training.

Under the new arrangement, candidates seeking admission into NCE and Non-Technological Agricultural Programmes will no longer be required to sit for the annual UTME. Instead, they are expected to present their O’Level results at a designated IPRC or JAMB PRC to complete the registration process.

JAMB also announced that candidates who had already registered for and sat the 2026 UTME but have decided to pursue NCE or Non-Technological Agricultural Programmes can convert their existing applications at any IPRC or JAMB PRC without paying any additional fee.

The Board urged qualified candidates to take advantage of the registration window by visiting the nearest registration centre early to avoid last-minute congestion.

Benjamin said the initiative is part of JAMB’s broader efforts to widen access to teacher education and agricultural training while ensuring that admissions into the programmes remain merit-based and are limited to candidates who meet the prescribed entry requirements.

Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony on Thursday, the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, described the initiative as a critical intervention that would address both Nigeria’s electricity metering deficit and youth unemployment while supporting ongoing reforms aimed at making the electricity market financially sustainable.

The minister said the programme reflected the Tinubu administration’s commitment to transforming the power sector by investing in infrastructure as well as human capital.

Tegbe noted that inadequate metering remains one of the biggest structural challenges confronting the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), contributing significantly to the sector’s long-standing liquidity crisis.

“Where electricity consumed cannot be accurately measured, revenue cannot be accurately collected. Where revenue is uncertain, investments decline, infrastructure deteriorates, and ultimately consumers suffer,” he said.

According to him, closing the metering gap is essential to restoring financial discipline, improving service delivery and attracting private sector investment into the electricity industry.

He reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that electricity consumers pay only for the energy they consume while service providers receive payment for electricity genuinely supplied.

“The guiding principle is simple: every Nigerian deserves to pay only for the actual electricity consumed, and every service provider deserves to be paid for the electricity genuinely supplied. That principle is what smart metering makes possible,” Tegbe stated.

The minister explained that widespread deployment of smart meters would eliminate estimated billing, reduce disputes between consumers and electricity distribution companies (DisCos), improve transparency and strengthen public confidence in the power sector.

He also welcomed the recent withdrawal of the court action instituted by the Association of Meter Asset Providers of Nigeria (AMMON), describing the decision as a major breakthrough that would accelerate meter deployment across the country.

Tegbe commended AMMON, the Presidential Metering Initiative, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Meter Asset Providers and other stakeholders for embracing dialogue in the national interest.

Highlighting the objectives of the Power Force Programme, the minister said the shortage of skilled personnel had been identified as a major obstacle to achieving universal metering.

“The 5,000 young Nigerians being trained under this initiative will become the backbone of Nigeria’s smart metering workforce. They will help ensure that millions of households and businesses receive professionally installed meters that meet the highest technical and safety standards,” he said.

Beyond supporting the power sector, he said the initiative would create employment opportunities, develop technical skills among young Nigerians, promote local content and contribute to economic growth.

Addressing the first batch of trainees, Tegbe urged them to approach the programme with discipline and professionalism, noting that the skills they acquire would not only shape their careers but also contribute to Nigeria’s economic transformation.

In a statement, the Delegation described the document as entirely fake, stressing that it did not originate from the Secretary General of the Council of the European Union, Ms Thérèse Blanchet, as claimed by the scammers.

According to the fake document, the purported programme would provide compensation to citizens of Europe and other countries whose legally transferred funds were allegedly trapped in banks and other financial institutions across West Africa.

It also falsely claimed that the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS had been mandated to supervise the compensation process and directed claimants to contact him.

Dismissing the claims, the EU Delegation stated that no such programme exists and that neither the European Union nor the World Bank is involved in any initiative of that nature.

The Delegation further disclosed that the email addresses and telephone number listed in the document as belonging to Ms Blanchet and the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS are fake and are being used by fraudsters to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

It urged the public to disregard the fraudulent document and avoid engaging with those behind the scam.

The Delegation advised that its official website and verified social media platforms remain its only recognised channels for communicating with the public and providing authentic information on its activities and programmes.

He explained that the individuals affected were remedial students outside the college, adding that the Borno State Government is taking the necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.

The Ministry urged the public, particularly social media users, bloggers, and online publishers, to verify information through credible and official sources before sharing or publishing it.

It warned that the spread of unverified information misleads the public, creates unnecessary fear, undermines public confidence, and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments for students.

The Ministry also appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm, assuring them that there is no security threat at FGGC Monguno.

According to Ikharo Attah, Special Adviser (Media and Communications) to the Minister of Education in a Statement, the Minister, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during an inspection of major Federal Government education projects and institutions across Kano State.

Accompanied by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and other senior education officials, Alausa visited the Bilingual School in Ungogo, the JICA-supported Junior Secondary School in Lenge, Tofa Local Government Area, Federal Government College, Kano, the National Commission for Mass Education (NMEC) office and Tarda Smart School.

At the Bilingual School in Ungogo, the minister said construction had reached about 90 per cent completion and expressed confidence that the project would be delivered on or before August 31, 2026.

He directed that recruitment of teachers and other operational preparations begin immediately to enable the school admit its first set of learners in September.

Alausa also announced that a third bilingual school would commence academic activities at the beginning of the 2026 academic session, while a fourth is expected to become operational by June 2027.

He described the bilingual school initiative as one of the Federal Government’s key interventions to address the out-of-school children crisis by integrating Almajiri and other vulnerable children into formal education.

According to him, the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative has returned more than one million out-of-school children to classrooms within the last 24 months.

He added that the government’s focus extends beyond enrolment to ensuring pupils remain in school through improved teaching, enhanced learning environments and better educational outcomes.

At the JICA-supported Junior Secondary School in Lenge, the minister inspected ongoing construction of classrooms, perimeter fencing and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities.

He disclosed that the junior secondary school would relocate to the new structures upon completion, while the existing buildings would be converted into a primary school, with the Federal Government providing furniture and carrying out additional renovation works.

At the Federal Government College, Kano, Alausa commissioned a newly upgraded digital e-library equipped with solar power, air conditioning, improved lighting and about 80 digital computer workstations.

He described the facility as a major step towards equipping students with digital literacy skills required in a technology-driven world.

The minister revealed that the present administration inherited 36 abandoned or poorly executed e-library projects in Unity Colleges, noting that 16 of the facilities had now been fully rehabilitated through the intervention of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

He also interacted with students of the college, commending their confidence, communication skills and academic performance.

On the proposed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) land swap initiative at the college, Alausa said the policy would enable government to leverage underutilised land to generate resources for the construction of classrooms, hostels and other critical infrastructure.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that every policy translates into better opportunities for our students. We have no interest other than providing quality education and improved infrastructure for Nigerian children,” he said.

The minister added that the Federal Government remained open to partnerships with alumni associations and other stakeholders willing to support the development of educational institutions.

During the inspection, Alausa also visited the National Commission for Mass Education office in Kano and Tarda Smart School, where he assessed programmes aimed at strengthening foundational learning, expanding access to education and promoting digital innovation.

A highlight of the visit was the presentation of an Artificial Intelligence-powered school application developed by a student to improve teaching, learning, communication between schools and parents, attendance monitoring and access to learning materials.

Impressed by the innovation, the minister directed UBEC’s Director of Digital Platforms and Analytics to engage the student and explore ways of supporting further development of the application.

Earlier, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna, commended the Federal Government for its sustained interventions in the state’s education sector, describing collaboration between the federal and state governments as critical to improving access, infrastructure and learning outcomes.

He said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s declaration of a state of emergency in education and increased budgetary allocations underscored the state’s commitment to transforming the sector.

Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to implementing reforms aimed at expanding access to quality education, strengthening digital learning, modernising infrastructure and building a future-ready education system under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
