Amid internal tensions in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has resigned from the party and is expected to announce a new political platform before December 13, a development that could significantly alter the dynamics of Osun State politics, particularly with the 2027 general elections approaching.
In a statement issued on Monday, the governor confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to PDP executives in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.
Speaking in n interview, the state capital, State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi explained that Adeleke’s resignation was the result of prolonged internal crises within the PDP.
“The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party. He has written his resignation letter for quite some time”, Alimi said.
“It was long overdue. We appreciate the people for their support, and we urge them to continue to stand by the governor. Immediately I see many people around me, I will always be happy and be joyous”, Alimi added, citing a Yoruba adage that translates to mean that the people are the governor’s protectors.
He urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the governor.
Sources close to Adeleke revealed that he has been in consultations with political stakeholders, strategists, and grassroots leaders across the state to ensure the launch of his new party is well-coordinated and widely accepted.
The governor is expected to outline the ideology, structure, and national ambitions of his new party during the December 13 announcement. Residents and party supporters are being urged to remain engaged and patient as the transition unfolds.
