Zamfara state Governor Bello Matawalle has ordered the removal of  Abubakar Cika as emir of Maru and Lawal Ahmad as district head of Kanoma under Maru emirate council.

Deputy Governor of the state, Mahdi Gusau announced the development  in a statement released on Saturday.

Two months ago, Matawalle had ordered the suspension of both men over their alleged involvement in banditry.

In July, residents of Maru attacked the monarchs in Kanoma town, accusing them of conniving with bandits.

When the governor visited the community over the attacks that led to the deaths of 32 persons, the residents called for the removal of the two traditional rulers.

A committee was then set up to probe the activities of the traditional rulers.

According to Gusau, the committee has now reported back to the governor recommending the removal of Cika and Ahmad.
