WHO evacuates staff after attack on UN office in DRC 


The World Health Organization (WHO) says it has evacuated 49 of its staff from Beni town in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo after angry protesters stormed United Nations facilities. 

According to WHO spokesman, the evacuated persons are non-essential staff who have been working to end the Ebola outbreak. said more than 70 colleagues would remain there. 

On Monday, two people were killed in clashes with police after protesters set fire to the mayor of Beni’s office and several UN buildings. 

The violence was stoked by anger over the failure to stop an armed group that killed eight civilians in the city on Sunday night.
