Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Signs $500 Million, 14-Year Deal with Toronto Blue Jays

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has agreed to a monumental 14-year, $500 million contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to multiple reports.

The details of the deal, which were leaked on Sunday, reveal that it includes no deferred payments. This contract is now the second-largest in MLB history, following Juan Soto’s 15-year, $765 million agreement from December.

Guerrero, a four-time All-Star and MVP runner-up in 2021, was set to become a free agent at the end of the current season. By securing him with a new contract now, the Blue Jays avoid the competition of a bidding war when he would have hit the open market.

Over the course of his career, the 26-year-old has hit 160 home runs, accumulated 511 RBIs, and boasts a .287 batting average in 829 games. Last season, Guerrero hit 30 home runs, drove in 103 RBIs, and posted a stellar .323/.396/.544 batting line.

This season, through 10 games, Guerrero is hitting .256 with no home runs and four RBIs.
