Villarreal defeated Manchester United in an epic penalty shootout in the Europa League final in Poland on Wednesday night after the match ended 1-1 in regular and extra time.
The yellow submarines stunned the red devils after goalkeeper David de Gea missed the last spot-kick to give Villarreal their first-ever major trophy in Gdansk.
The game finished 1-1 after 120 minutes as Gerard Moreno put the Spaniards ahead in the 29th minute before Edinson Cavani leveled early in the second half.
Villarreal won the remarkable penalty shoot-out 11-10, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still waiting for his first trophy as United’s manager.
The result means Man United have not won a title of any kind in four seasons, since last lifting the Europa League trophy in the 2016-17 campaign under Jose Mourinho.
