US Capitol under lockdown after security threat

The US Capitol building and surrounding streets in Washington DC are in lockdown after police warned of an external security threat.

In a statement released by Capitol police, the order is in response to reports of someone who rammed a vehicle into two officers.

According to the report “Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital,”

Dozens of police cars, marked and unmarked, raced toward the Capitol building. All roads leading to the complex were blocked by police or police officers.

In the past couple of weeks, authorities have begun to remove the outer ring of high, razor-wire-topped fencing erected around the sprawling Capitol complex after an attack on Jan. 6 by thousands of supporters of ex-president Donald Trump.
