Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles secured their first win at the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations with a 3-1 victory over Zambia in their second Group B game at the Al Salam Stadium, Cairo, Egypt.
Patson Daka scored Zambia’s only goal in the 12th minute before Orji Okonkwo’s scored the first goal in the 16th minute to equalize for Nigeria.
Kelechi Nwakali slammed in a superb free kick in the 65th minute to put Nigeria in the lead for the first time in the tournament.
Germany-based forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, who won the U-17 World Cup in 2013 scored the third goal for the Eagles in additional time.
The U-23 side lost their opening match on Saturday after Ivory Coast defeated them 1 – 0.
After Tuesday’s win, Nigeria now places second in Group B with three points.
