Two policemen have been shot dead as armed robbers attacked a bullion van at the Iwo Road area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The attack which happened on Thursday afternoon left people scampering for safety as the exchange of gunshots between the robbers and security agents attached to the bullion van lasted for some minutes.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, who visited the scene of the robbery incident confirmed that two policemen were killed in the unfortunate incident.
She said her men also killed one of the robbers but the corpse was taken away by the robbery gang.
The police boss said that in and out of the state had been locked down with a view to preventing the robbers from getting out of the state.
The CP thereafter explained that the police in connection with other security agencies in the state were working assiduously to arrest the robbers, assuring that more details would be provided on the matter.
“It is a coordinated attack which we are still trying to find out what happened because they trailed the bullion van from where it went to get money to dispense it to the place”.
“I can’t definitely say now what actually went wrong, we are trying our possible best to get them. Two of my men were shot in the leg, let us investigate and we will be able to give you more details.”
It is however still unclear how much money the robbers made away with but police says investigations are still ongoing to get full grasp of the situation.
