Troops of the 4 Brigade, Exercise Crocodile Smile IV, have arrested one of the suspected killers of four officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Edo State.
The four NDLEA personnel were killed and their operational vehicles set ablaze in a surprise attack.
A statement by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Ojo Adenegan, stated that the brigade, in a joint operation with personnel of the NDLEA, Ondo State Command, conducted a raid on the Uzebba community in the Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Adenegan said the operation was targeted at suspects, who allegedly attacked the NDLEA checkpoint between Ifon and Uzebba in February this year.
The operation led to the arrest of Ayodele Ohimai, one of the suspected killers of the NDLEA personnel, while his accomplice, Reuben Kehinde, escaped, but his wife, Omo, was arrested.
Meanwhile, the troops, acting on a tip-off, prevented a robbery at the Ogheghe community in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state around 10pm on Monday, December 9, 2019.
Adenegan stated, “On receipt of the information, the troops mobilised swiftly to the scene of the incident and arrested three suspects. They also recovered a short single-barrelled gun with five live cartridges.
“The suspected killer has since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation, while the robbery suspects are in our custody for further investigation before they are handed over to the civil police for further necessary action.”
“We also use this opportunity to assure the general public that the Nigerian Army will leave no stone unturned in ensuring a peaceful Edo State and environs,” he added.
