A light-rail passenger train derailed on Thursday night in Sacramento, California leaving 27 injured, officials said.
The Sacramento Fire Department received a call at 9:43 p.m. about a motor vehicle accident.
Once emergency crew arrived, they learnt that it was actually a light-rail passenger train incident and determined it a mass casualty event, prompting several ambulances and firefighters to rush to the scene at Roseville Road and Marconi Avenue
According to Capt. Keith Wade of the Sacramento Fire Department, 13 out of the 27 victims were taken to two trauma hospitals.
The remaining patients were treated on the scene after which they were discharged.
Regional transit authorities are investigating the cause of the derailment.
