President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a landmark reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis across federal hospitals, cutting the price per session from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000.
The announcement was made on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Policy and Information, Daniel Bwala, who described the move as a major relief for thousands of Nigerians battling kidney-related illnesses.
According to Bwala, the subsidy has already taken effect in key federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across the six geopolitical zones. These include:
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja
University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri
University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta
Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare
University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin
University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar
Bwala further revealed that more federal hospitals will be included before the end of the year, ensuring wider access to affordable treatment nationwide.
This development follows President Tinubu’s earlier approval of free caesarean sections (C-sections) in federal hospitals—a bold step aimed at improving maternal healthcare and reducing preventable deaths among women and children.
“These interventions are a clear demonstration of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action—ensuring that no Nigerian is denied life-saving healthcare simply because of cost,” Bwala stated.
