three feared dead in Abeokuta fuel tanker explosion


Three persons have died and several properties destroyed in a petrol tanker explosion along Presidential Boulevard in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The incident occurred at about 8.15 am, Tuesday morning, when the 33,000-litre tanker had brake failure, crashed into a commercial avenue and spilled its content, while descending Kuto overhead bridge.

According to reports, a motorcyclist was killed during the accident, while several properties and dozens of vehicles were razed in the ensued inferno.

At least five vehicles and one motorcycle were burnt in the fire.

“Incidents like this nature will always happen and we are always on top of it in the procurement of equipment and even fire tenders,” he said.

The state fire service, men of the civil defence, and other security operatives have since put the situation under control.
